A common misconception is that the term WiFi is short for “wireless fidelity,” however this is not the case. WiFi is simply a trademarked phrase that means IEEE 802.11x.

WiFi Alliance hired Interbrand to determine a little catchier name than ‘IEEE 802.11b Direct Sequence’. Phil Belanger, the founder member of WiFi Alliance presided over the selection of the name ‘WiFi‘.

Click Connect to a network in the left-hand column. Select the name (SSID) of yourWiFi network from the list of available connections and then click the Connect button. You’ll be asked to enter your Security key, which is your WiFi password (WPA). Type it in, and then click Connect.
