Configure VLANs on the VTP Server

In this article we will discuss Configure VLANs on the VTP Server, will make brief discussion on Configure VLANs on the VTP Server, In last article we discuss about Configure the VTP Clients.

VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTPis a Cisco proprietary protocol that propagates the definition of Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN) on the whole local area network.

To do this, VTP carries VLAN information to all the switches in a VTP domain. VTP advertisements can be sent over 802.1Q, and ISL trunks.

VTP reduces administration in a switched network. When you configure a newVLAN on one VTP server, the VLAN is distributed through all switches in the domain.

There currently are no VLANs configured on S1 other than the default VLANs. Configure 3 VLANs.

Notice that the 3 VLANs are now in the VLAN database. Verify the VTP status.

Notice that the configuration revision number incremented six times from the default 0 to 6. This is because three new, named VLANs were added. Each time the administrator makes a change to the VTP server’s VLAN database, this number will increase by one. The number increased by one when a VLAN was added and by one when the name for the VLAN was configured.
