ICMP

In this article we will discuss ICMP, will make brief discussion on ICMP, In last article we discuss about AppleTalk.

The Internet Control Message Protocol is a supporting protocol in the Internet protocol suite. It is used by network devices, including routers, to send error messages and operational information indicating, for example, that a requested service is not available or that a host or router could not be reached.

ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) is an error-reporting protocol network devices like routers use to generate error messages to the source IP address when network problems prevent delivery of IP packets.

Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) is a TCP/IP network layer protocol that provides troubleshooting, control and error message services. ICMP is most frequently used in operating systems for networked computers, where it transmits error messages.

ICMP traffic is necessary for troubleshooting TCP/IP and for managing its flow and proper function. However, ICMP is also dangerous. Hackers can use it to map and attack networks, so it needs to be restricted. It is used by network devices, including routers, to send error messages and operational information indicating, for example, that a requestedservice is not available or that a host or router could not be reached.
